Power and Perseverance: Weightlifting Achievements
Our students continue to raise the bar—both literally and figuratively—in the field of sports. S.B.K. Girls’ Higher Secondary School is proud to be the first school in Tamil Nadu to train and produce 18 female weightlifters, a historic milestone that reflects our institution’s unwavering commitment to holistic development. Across various prestigious competitions, our athletes have brought honor and recognition to the school and the Virudhunagar Educational District.
Tamil Nadu State Weightlifting Championship – VIT, Vellore (09.08.2024)
In a landmark achievement, several students from S.B.K. Girl’s Higher Secondary School participated in the Tamil Nadu State Weightlifting Competition held at VIT Engineering College, Vellore. Their performance was outstanding across various weight categories:
- K. Sonia – 40 kg
- K. Archana Devi – 45 kg
- D. Pavithra Lakshmi – 55 kg
- M. Priyadharshini & S. Kavyadharshini – 59 kg
- S.A. Harini – 71 kg
- K. Nithya & J. Yogeswari – 76 kg
- S. Atchaya – 81 kg
Among them, S. Akshay made a remarkable mark by winning the silver medal (2nd place) in the 81 kg category, bringing statewide recognition to both our school and district.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Cup – Madurai (14.09.2024)
In this prestigious inter-district event, our students showcased their athletic prowess competing against participants from six districts:
- K. Sonia – 3rd place, 45 kg
- D. Pavithra Lakshmi – 2nd place, 55 kg
- M. Harnika – 3rd place
- M. Priyadharshini – 2nd place, 59 kg
- P. Preetika – 3rd place
- S. Kavyadharshini – 1st place, 71 kg
- R. Rasmi – 3rd place
- J. Yogeswari – 1st place, 71+ kg
- K. Nithya – 2nd place
- S. Atchaya – 3rd place
These commendable performances brought great pride to the school and reinforced our leadership in girls’ sports excellence within the Virudhunagar Educational District.

Our weightlifters continued their winning streak in Chennai, achieving the following accolades:
- K. Sonia – 5th place, 45 kg
- D. Pavithra Lakshmi – 9th place, 55 kg
- M. Harnika – 7th place
- M. Priyadharshini – 2nd place, 59 kg
- P. Preetika – 3rd place
- S. Kavyadharshini – 3rd place, 64 kg
- S.A. Harini – 1st place, 71 kg
- R. Rasmi – 3rd place
- J. Yogeswari – 1st place
- K. Nithya – 2nd place, 71+ kg
- S. Atchaya – 3rd place
Winners were also rewarded with cash prizes: ₹3000 for 1st place, ₹2000 for 2nd place, and ₹1000 for 3rd place—recognizing not only their strength but their determination and dedication.
